Coaching teachers for excellence.
Every day with Catch Up & Read, teachers are applying best literacy practices to ensure student outcomes.
CAR teachers earn the following micro-credentials:
-
Welcome Badge
At Catch Up & Read, teachers receive their first badge for becoming a CAR Teacher and being a part of an amazing cohort for the 2024-2025 school year!
-
Environment Rubric
Mastering this rubric means a teacher has designed a classroom environment that is conducive to both whole group and small group instruction. The environment rubric measures the effectiveness of the CAR Teacher in consistently having materials accessible and ready for use, as well as the visibility and tracking of the CAR schedule.
-
Management Rubric
How well does the teacher manage transitions from whole group instruction to small group instruction? How is the teacher's ability to manage and redirect student behaviors? The management rubric assesses how effectively the teacher establishes a culture of systems that maintain student focus throughout whole group instruction, small group instruction, and independent work, including during transitions.
-
Phonics & Read Aloud Rubric
The phonics/IRA rubric measures how effectively the teacher guides students in actively participating in the learning process of oral and listening comprehension. Teachers who master the phonics/IRA rubric deliver engaging interactive read-alouds using various response strategies, tokens, and purposeful dialogue within the classroom.
-
Technology Rubric
A teacher’s ability to manage students working independently on assigned tasks away from the small group table is crucial for overall learning and classroom management. The technology rubric assesses how effectively the teacher creates an organized and structured approach to facilitating iReady usage through independent workstations on the iPad, computer, or other technology.
-
Small Group Rubric
The small group rubric measures how effectively the teacher implements best practices based on the science of reading to enhance students’ decoding and comprehension abilities. A teacher who excels at managing small groups can skillfully lead a 25-minute structured lesson that explicitly and systematically engages students in phonics, phonemic awareness, corrective feedback, comprehension, and writing practices.
-
Lead Teacher Rubric
The lead teacher rubric measures the effectiveness of the teacher in providing coaching, conducting observations, offering feedback, and leading Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to deliver content to the teachers during their learning together. An effective lead teacher can successfully facilitate the Catch Up & Read program in the absence of a CAR literacy coach.
-
Accelerator Small Group Rubric
Effectively managing small group interventions during the school day is critical for successfully supporting Tier II and Tier III students. This rubric assesses how well the teacher transitions from whole group to small group instruction, manages and redirects student behaviors, and implements a 25-minute structured lesson that explicitly and systematically engages students in phonics, phonemic awareness, corrective feedback, comprehension, and writing practices.
-
Graduation Badge
Catch Up & Read teachers will earn their final graduation badge after completing the year and mastering the teacher rubrics for the 2024-2025 school year.
